Advisory Group

Results of past
reader input:

  • Simplified the language in one manuscript.
  • Abandoned one project after three major revisions failed to get a manuscript our readers liked.
  • Changed the tone of a manuscript so it did not feel condescending.
  • Cut one chapter and reorganized the material to make the book more concise.

Do you like to share your thoughts and concerns about parenting?

We would like to hear them.

One reason Parenting Press books are so practical is that we field test manuscripts with parents, child care givers, and professionals before we publish them.

We also listen to parents and professionals about what material they feel is needed and then often develop books to meet those needs.

Group members may have the opportunity to:

  • Read a manuscript before it becomes a book
  • Tell us what parts of a manuscript you really like or dislike, and what parts are unclear or confusing
  • Give us feedback on possible book titles
  • Comment on proposed manuscript ideas and give us your own
  • Suggest or review cover ideas

We strive to have a panel of 30–40 people—a diverse group of parents and professionals, young and mature, new and experienced care givers, men and women.

How the advisory group works:

When we have a project, we see who in the group might be interested in field testing it. We e-mail them a description of the project and the deadline.

If the project is reviewing a book, those who agree will receive either a paper copy or a link to an electronic copy, and a questionnaire.

We then compile responses from the questionnaires. Occasionally, we need to contact someone for further explanation of their comments. Then we revise the manuscript. Upon publication, every field tester receives a complimentary copy of the finished book.

To apply, tell us a little about yourself and how to reach you (none of this information will be shared or used for advertising purposes).
